Two young men look out over Libbey Beach.
Above: Rick on the ferry to from Port Townsend to Whidbey Island. Below: We met a few of my family members at a beach house rental. This is the view of Puget Sound from the back deck. (Click on the below panorama to expand it.)
Our fourth cousin Peggy showed us this house where our great-great grandparents, Thomas Nunan and Elizabeth McCrohan, lived before there was an addition in back. It must have been one room downstairs and one upstairs, where they raised their 12 children (a few died very young). Peggy talked her way inside and we got to look around.
We spent a day at the family cemetery in Oak Harbor for a potluck reunion and semiannual meeting about cemetery business. The site is for decedents of Nunan, Davis, Morse, O'Leary, & McCrohan - the original Irish pioneer families of 1858. My family are decedents of both Nunan and McCrohan.
After the reunion, we headed to the northernmost tip of the island, Deception Pass, where a bridge connects to the mainland.
We spent the rest of the day checking out beaches, sunsets, and wheat fields with farms.

October 5, I-80, about 34 miles east of the Iowa/Nebraska border.
The sun sets on our longest day of driving. We got stuck in traffic twice while passing through Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa, finally stopping in Omaha, Nebraska.

I'm in California for 4 weeks visiting and helping my parents move. I might not post any more photos here until I get back in mid-July, but I may occasionally put one up on
fotolog.

Theme Thursday theme: Purple
There are no purple spring flowers around here yet but the rain brings promise and the sunsets have been amazing.

Somehow the freight ships know before a storm comes. If I see one parking in the bay by our house, I can guess a storm is soon on the way. A half hour after this one showed up today, the wind got really gusty.
Later, while the sun was setting, I noticed it reflecting off the "laker". The color lasted for only a few minutes.

Sunrise over Lake Superior. I can't believe I woke up automatically at dawn - must be a first. With sunrises like this, I could wake up at dawn every day!

Sun set over the Mackinac Bridge and Straits of Mackinac where Lake Michigan (in the distance) and Lake Huron (close) meet. This bridge is the only way to get from the Michigan lower penninsula and MI upper penninsula, other than having to drive all the way around a great lake!
